Vulvitis is a symptom of an underlying infection or severe irritation. The key is to eliminate the underlying infection or irritation, then the vulvitis will resolve in a day or two. Please go to your gynecologist for full evaluation and treatment. I recommend that women stay away from over the counter preparations that have hydrocortisone (works for itching) because it inhibits the immune system and can worsen an infection.

As couples try more positions or more energetic sex, inflammation of the vulva is something that I am hearing about more often now. Definitely see your doctor to make sure it's not STD related, then take care of your vulva by using a really mild soap, stay away from perfumed products, go for softer pants or skirts to get some air flow down there, and get out of sweaty gym clothes ASAP.
