Sex with Mirena

By upstateny on Apr 28, 2011 at 1:19 AM

My wife and I have been together for going on four years. When we first met she had the nuva ring for Birth Control. Shortly After Marrying she had the Mirena put in. I have a Prince Albert Genital Piercing and used to get caught on the nuva ring. Now with the Mirena it is painful to have sex, I have told my wife this but not wanting kids this seems like the viable option. I have taken my piercing out and tried different positions It feels as if the Mirena is going inside my penis during sex.but it always ends with my Penis being sore, bleeding, or black and blue, I have almost stopped having sex for fear of the pain and discomfort for days after. Is this normal ? What can we do ?

If the Mirena is positioned correctly inside the uterus, it should not be giving any contact to the penis during intercourse. The only thing that might be creating contact is the threads, but these are soft and flexible. Has she gone to the Gyn to check the position of the Mirena? If it is in place, the neck of the uterus and the cervix are thick enough to prevent contact. She may benefit from speaking to her Gyn about this.

This is definitely not normal. A well placed Mirena IUD should not injure your penis. You should not feel it at all. It is possible that it is partially out and the bottom is sitting in, or extruding from, her cervix. She needs to see her gynecologist right away. Not only can a poorly placed IUD cause pain during sex, it can lead to pregnancy.

I have had the Mirena in for 3 years and me nor my husband have any feeling of it even being there, I would definitely get that checked out if I were her!

I have been worried about this as well, my GF has the mirena, and the only time I feel it is if she is on top riding me and the thread rubs and feels like its cutting into my penis....I plan on getting multiple genital piercings but am highly concerned about how the 2 will go together, I like pain but not the feeling of the thread :/ she claims she has gotten it checked by her gyno and that they said it was where it was supposed to be....so I'm kinda nervous about it..any advice or help would b greatly appreciated
