Sexual Positions Causing Wife Pain

By pea on Apr 28, 2011 at 12:17 PM

Hello. My wife and I have a very satisfying sex life together. There are certain sexual positions however that cause her pain. For instance traditional missionary and her on top both a painful while laying on her stomach from behind is the most comfortable and satisfying. Can you help explain this and how we can help the situation?

Thank you.

It depends where she is experiencing pain. Is it deep inside her vagina? Or are you talking about her back or her joints? There are many physical issues to negotiate during sex, especially as we age. If her discomfort or pain is deep inside, she could have endometriosis which will affect some positions. She can be evaluated for this at her Gyn, although a definitive diagnosis cannot be done outside of laparoscopic surgery.

It sounds like she is having pain with deep penetration. When she is on her stomach and penetrated from the rear, the penetration is more shallow. There are many reasons for pain with deep penetration. Fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic adhesions, infections, endometriosis, among others. She needs to see her gynecologist for an exam and ultrasonogram.
