  Try getting him to join you on events that include exercise but aren't "exercise". Things like walks in tehneighborhood - early morning or late at night, can be great ways to connect and see your neighborhood differently and privately just the 2 of you, or hikes to scenic areas and seeing how the seasons change as the weeks and months pass, walking around museums, anything that is movement.
