A new study out of Penn State Erie found that, according to therapists, social workers and physicians at least, the best sexual encounters last between seven and 13 minutes, not including foreplay. That’s a far more reasonable timeframe for intercourse than most of us would’ve imagined, and upon hearing these study results, a collective sigh of relief could be heard in bedrooms around the nation.

With more and more men taking prescribed medications, it's time to talk about sexual side-effects and what may be happening, or in this case not happening, in the bedroom.

We're all familiar with the now-infamous orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally. Meg Ryan is sitting across the table from Billy Crystal and launches into a full-blown orgasmic performance to demonstrate over corned beef and rye that, yes, women fake orgasm and men often have no idea.

I hear it all the time: “I’m just dating him in the meantime.”

It reminds me of something Pablo Picasso said to aspiring artists: “Never take a part time job because it will become your full-time life.”

Dating “in the meantime” is based on the belief that time is infinite. But in reality, “in the meantime” is wasted time, which means missed opportunities. Sure, you may be living in the moment, but it’s a moment that has been dulled around the edges, stripped of importance and immediacy. When you’re living in meantime-mode, you’re constantly letting yourself off the hook and embracing a reactive approach to life rather than a proactive one.
